EDGE History

In 1995 Mega Ministries, now called EDGE OUTREACH, was formed as a non-profit organization with the purpose of networking, training and supporting adult youth workers volunteering and working in local churches. Mega Ministries hosted youth worker seminars, published resource manuals for youth workers, and taught college courses in youth ministry at Simmons Bible College in Louisville.

In 1997, it became evident that many young people do not have the resources or leadership in their congregation to go on mission trips. In response to this problem, Mega Ministries planned a two-week global mission project for young people in Kentucky and Indiana. What God did through this effort was amazing - 165 young people from 25 different churches traveled in 14 teams to Costa Rica, Kenya, and Brazil to do a variety of humanitarian and ministry projects.

In 2001 EDGE traveled to Kenya and the team installed a water purification system to help people avoid sickness and death from waterborne disease. The leadership at EDGE’s quickly realized the enormous potential of providing safe drinking water and sought to include water purification as part of its work in developing countries.

Since 2002 EDGE expanded its work to include training, equipping and mobilizing people to make a difference in the areas of drinking water and communication. Water purification, water filtration, community health education and hand pump repair training programs were added in the ensuing eight years.

In 2007 EDGE launched its hand pump repair training to empower people to repair the most commonly found hand pumps in the developing world. As of today, this is the only place in North American to learn hand pump repair indoors, year-round.

Between 2008-2010 EDGE gained a reputation as a reliable ‘first-responder’ to natural disasters in Costa Rica, Pakistan and Haiti focusing efforts on providing emergency water relief to people suffering do to earthquakes and flooding.

Currently EDGE exists and operates to provide the proper training, skills and tools to individuals and groups who are passionate about safe water.
