Every day, thousands of people around the world die because of preventable water-borne diseases. Pathogens that cause severe diarrhea, such as e. coli, cholera, and typhoid, are especially deadly.
You can be a part of the solution. After training at EDGE OUTREACH, you will know how to provide safe drinking to literally tens of thousands of people. What is even better is that you will know solutions that are simple, affordable, and easy to sustain long-term.

Health education is designed to help people understand what germs and parasites are, how they are transmitted, and more importantly, how to use this knowledge to prevent disease.

Without effective health education the programs that deliver safe water have little chance of having a sustainable improvement in community health. That is why EDGE OUTREACH combines both water purification and health education – both – in its courses. Using a combination of posters, props, skits and more, this training gives you a powerful way to help people improve their health and well being.

Who Should Attend:

• Community health workers
• Those who do medical related humanitarian relief work
• People who work in short/long term missions in developing countries
• Those preparing for work, projects and endeavors similar to Peace Corps service

What You Will Learn to Teach:

• What is a germ.
• How germs are spread.
• How to keep germs from spreading including handwashing.
• How to make a simple “Tippy Tap” for hand washing with little water.
• How to protect homes and families from flies.
• What the different kinds of parasites.
• How parasites are spread.
• How to treat diarrheal illness in babies, children and adults (including the Oral Rehydration Solution)
• Role of different food groups play in good health
• Dental care

Your training will include:

• Instruction
• Training manual
• Breakfast/lunch
• Resource CD.

Duration and cost:

• A modified health-and-hygiene training is included with the water purification course. However, an expanded 2 day event for health-and-hygiene training is available on demand provided there are at least ten people in your group. The course lasts 2 days.
