Finally, a better way to stay hydrated at Waterfront events.
1. Bring your reusable water bottle to Waterfront Wednesdays and the Independence Festival, or buy a fancy BPA-free Pure Tap to Go ® bottle from one of the beverage vendors for two bucks. All proceeds from bottle sales benefit EDGE OUTREACH.
2. Refill your bottle with cold Louisville tap water FOR FREE (!!) as many times as you want. Seriously.
3. Smile, knowing that you're eliminating waste, protecting the environment, and - if you bought a reusable Pure Tap bottle - saving lives in the developing world.
Here's why this program has been implemented:
There are 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in every square mile of ocean, mostly from the photodegradation of plastic water bottles and bags. See, plastic isn't biodegradable, it's photodegradable. That means it's slooooowly broken apart by photons (from sunlight) into teeny tiny little pieces that can easily absorb toxins and pollute our soil and waterways and even animals when digested. Nasty.

Gross, right?
Thankfully, Louisville has some of the BEST tap water in the US, and the Louisville Water Company has partnered with EDGE OUTREACH to eliminate the use of use-and-discard water bottles on the Waterfront and save some lives on the way.
Presenting (drumroll, please): Louisville Pure Tap to Go ®!
At Waterfront events this summer, you'll find water stations where you can refill your reusable water bottle FOR FREE. The water is cold, too - it's run through a coil system in a cooler. If you don't have a water bottle with you, you can purchase a Louisville Pure Tap to Go ® bottle from any of the beverage vendors at the Waterfront for $2. All proceeds benefit EDGE OUTREACH. So - drink Louisville tap water out of your fancy new BPA-free Pure Tap bottle, and provide safe water to communities in the developing world. It's win-win, really.
I'll be manning the refill station next week at Waterfront Wednesday and at the Independence Festival. Stop by, hydrate, talk to me about the global water crisis. See you there!
